Hornets point guard Chris Paul missed last night’s 85-77 loss to Chicago after suffering a concussion in a collision with Cleveland’s Ramon Sessions on Sunday. It was a scary scene that resulted in Paul being carted off on a stretcher, but he was walking around minus a neck brace prior to the game with the Bulls. He is scheduled to be reevaluated by New Olreans’ doctors today to gauge a timetable for his return.

Paul has started 65 games and is averaging 15.9 points and 9.6 assists. He’s been hampered by hip and knee soreness most of the season, but has managed to play through the pain. The four-time All-Star missed 37 games last year with ankle and knee ailments.

The Hornets are currently clinging to the seventh spot in the Western Conference with 16 games left. Both Memphis and Phoenix are nipping at their heels, so Paul’s absence will be felt if he is sidelined for an extended period of time.

Backup Jarret Jack is an adequate fill-in, but he lacks Paul’s shooting touch and playmaking ability. New Orleans hosts Dallas tomorrow night, then gets two days off before facing Sacramento on Saturday. The hope is Paul will be back by the weekend.
