Carmelo Anthony To The Knicks?

The will he or won’t he be traded saga that has surrounded Nuggets All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony continues to build steam as the NBA’s February 24th trade deadline approaches. The latest rumor involves Denver, Minnesota and the New York Knicks. According to sources close to the deal, the Knicks would ship Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to the T’Wolves, and Wilson Chandler to Denver, who would also acquire Corey Brewer and a first-round pick from Minnesota. Of course, the Knicks would get Melo, who has expressed interest in playing in New York for months. Got all that?
This convoluted exchange of picks and players is subject to change or fall part completely. After all, Anthony has been linked with roughly half the teams in the league since last summer when he spurned signing a lucrative extension with the Nuggets.
If the Knicks were smart, they would wait until season’s end then go after Melo in free agency. However, intelligence has been in short supply in the Big Apple for over a decade. Although, the Amar’e Stoudemire signing has worked out pretty well so far. Which begs the question: why bring bring Anthony aboard at all? He plays the same position as Stoudemire. They would be better suited going after a legit shooting guard instead of another power forward that isn’t a dominating rebounder or defender.
But I digress. Should the Knicks pull the trigger they would be giving up what amounts to dead weight. Chandler has some nice game, but isn’t All-Star material. Curry hasn’t suited up this season and Randolph is nothing more than a role player. As for the Nuggets, getting Chandler and Brewer would do little to improve their standing in a loaded Western Conference. While not quite as drastic as Cleveland minus LeBron, the Nuggets will be in rebuilding mode once Melo is gone.
Whatever happens, it appears Anthony will get his wish to play in Madison Square Garden at some point in the future. Denver is doing the right thing in attempting to gain some compensation for their most valuable commodity. Allowing him to walk into free agency knowing he has no wish to return would be unwise, to say the least.

… am i reading this correctly? carmelo is NOT a powerforward infact he can play the shooting gaurd and let gallinari take over the small forward. For a 6’8 SF/SG he is a great rebounder and an amazing scoring threat. they (the Knicks) would’nt have enough salary cap to sign and keep all their current players (chandler in particular) and sign melo as well. So this is a smart decision by the big apple knicks not a bad one. On top of everything he wll take over the sg position moing gallow at the sf ray felton at the point stoudamire at the PF and they can trade for a great center but have mozgov or turiaf in the meantime. Basicly they replaced chandler with carmelo whom the knicks would’ve had to part ways with in the first place to get melo

Melo is a small forward and wing player, Amare is a power forward big. They don’t play the same position. At all.
