Billups Questionable For Game 2

The hits just keep on coming for the New York Knicks. Coming on the heels of their narrow Game 1 playoff loss to Boston comes news starting point guard Chauncey Billups could sit for Game 2 with an undisclosed injury to his left knee and/or thigh. Billups was seen visibly limping as he left the court on Sunday and admitted he was dealing with a great deal of pain. At this point, it’s unclear whether he’ll be available Tuesday night.
Billups had a quiet Game 1, scoring ten points and dishing four assists. If he can’t play, Toney Douglas or Anthony Carter will likely get the call. Douglas finished with eight points and two assists in Game 1; Carter had two points and a pair of dimes.
Billups has missed six games with various leg ailments since being dealt from Denver in the Carmelo Anthony trade. His veteran leadership and postseason experience is critical for the Knicks, especially versus the battle tested Celtics. Head coach Mike D’Antoni was uncertain about his point guard’s status yesterday:
“I know he’s hurting right now and we’ll find out [Monday], I guess,” D’Antoni said. “I don’t think it’s anything more than it’s going to hurt. If it hurts too much, he can’t play. And, if it doesn’t, he’ll be ready to go.”
Billups is a tough guy, but unless he’s 100%, don’t expect him to take the court. Stopping Rajon Rondo, who went for ten points, nine assists and nine rebounds in Game 1, is hard enough on two healthy legs, let alone one. Game 2 will tip at 7pm tomorrow night in Boston.
