The New York Yankees have removed first baseman Mark Teixeira from their postseason roster after he suffered a strained right hamstring on Tuesday.
The Yankees replace Teixeira with utility infielder Eduardo Nunez.
Teixeira, an AL All-Star, will miss the remainder of the American League Championship Series and would miss the World Series if the Yankees were to overcome a 3-1 deficit and knock off the Texas Rangers.
Teixeira injured himself running out a groundball in the Yankees’ Game 4 loss to the Rangers. Game 5 is Wednesday afternoon.
Should the Yankees overcome a 3-1 deficit against the Rangers in the best-of-seven ALCS, Teixeira would not be eligible for the World Series. Teixeira said the injury will need six-to-eight weeks to heal.
Switch-hitter Lance Berkman replaced Teixeira at first base, and Robinson Cano moved up to the No. 3 spot in the lineup against Rangers lefty C.J. Wilson.
