MLB Betting Free Picks: San Diego @ Florida
Added on Jun 25, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Baseball betting will once again be focused on Interleague action tonight, but we’ll take a look at the lone National League game on the board as the San Diego Padres travel to Miami to take on the Florida Marlins. Florida has pretty much tread water all season and is in fourth place in the NL East, while San Diego holds a 2.5 game lead atop the NL West.

As we’ve said over and over again this season, the San Diego Padres just don’t get the respect they deserve for being a quality team. For that reason, they continue to be a great wagering value night in and night out. In this case, we’ve got a ‘pick’em’ price and in our opinion the Padres are a much better team. Florida is just 19-19 -3 units at home, while San Diego has a solid 19-14 record on the road good for +10 units of profit. Also worth noting that San Diego has been great at bouncing back from a loss this season–they’re 20-10 +12 units after losing their previous game.
Florida does have a decent record against left handed pitching (15-9 +5 units) but interestingly their team batting average and run production drops off against southpaws. Clayton Richard is only 4-4 on the season despite putting up decent numbers–2.93 ERA overall, 2.73 on the road. Chris Volstad checks in with a 4.50 ERA and Florida has lost 10 of his 14 starts this season. Padres have taken 2 of 3 from Florida so far this season, and we’re thinking they’ll do at least that well in this series. We’ll happily back them at a great value price and look for this game to go Over the total. 8 of the last 9 meetings in South Florida have exceeded the total including 2 of 3 this year.
