Minnesota Twins at Seattle Mariners
June 1, 7:10 PM Pacific
Twins continue to play excellent baseball and head into tonight’s game having won five straight and 7 of their last 10. Mariners have lost 3 straight after showing some signs of life in late May, and are 5-5 in their last 10. Twins have a winning record on the road (13-11) while the Mariners are 12-14 at home. Nick Blackburn gets the start for Minnesota and although his numbers aren’t impressive (4.28 ERA overall, 5.61 on the road) the Twins have won 8 of his 9 starts. Jason Vargas has been solid for Seattle this year with a 3.12 overall/2.56 home ERA.
A couple of things of note here–Seattle has been a very streaky team, and losses have beget other losses. Mariners are 8-22 -15.8 units following a loss this season. More significantly, Minnesota has dominated left handed pitching posting an 11-5 +6.1 record against southpaws. At a ‘pick’em’ price we’ll gladly back the far superior overall team in what looks to be a favorable situation for them. Twins have a great opportunity to pad their lead in the AL Central and we expect them to take advantage of it.
