MLB Baseball Betting: New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves
Added on Jun 13, 2012 by Jack Thurman in
The New York Yankees look to finish off a sweep of the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field tonight. The Yankees have won five straight and 8 of 10 and are back atop the AL East leading Tampa Bay and Baltimore by one game. The Braves had been playing well until they ran into the Bronx Bombers but they’ve now lost three straight and trail the red hot Washington Nationals by 4.5 games in the NL East.

On paper this is a fairly even matchup between high level teams and decent starting pitchers. Recent form favors not only the Yankees as a team but Kuroda in the starting matchup. The Yankees are clicking on all cylinders at the moment and have basically obliterated their opponents in the month of June. They’re 9-2 in the month good for 7 units of profit and have gone 6-2 in Interleague play this season and have won five straight against the National League heading into this game. They swept the Mets in their previous Interleague series and have a chance to do the same against Atlanta here.
Hiroki Kuroda has struggled at various points this season and the Yankees have lost 5 of his 6 road starts. He’s been exceptional in his last three starts, however, and two of those were on the road. In his last three assignments he’s gone a total of 22 innings and allowed just 2 earned runs with the Yankees winning two of those three games. The Braves have won 6 of Tim Hudson’s eight starts this year including 3 of 4 at home though his numbers have been far from impressive. Hudson’s YTD ERA is 3.83 with a 5.92 ERA at home. He’s got a 5.06 ERA in his last three starts though the Braves managed to win two of those games.
The Yankees are extremely dangerous right now since they’re starting to get decent pitching to go along with their highly potent bats. The Yankees are averaging 5 runs per game on the road YTD and have scored 27 runs in their last five games. That offensive productivity doesn’t bode well for a Braves bullpen that has a 5.24 home ERA and 4 blown saves at Turner Field.
At this point the Yankees are the better team in better form. Kuroda is the better pitcher in better form. At a ‘pick’em’ price that’s all we need to know to back the Bronx Bombers.
