Top Rank Signs Amateur Standout Jesse Magdaleno To Promotional Contract

In boxing, there isn’t a high profile draft for fighters getting ready to turn pro. For the most part, the event in which a fighter decides to leave the amateur ranks behind is accompanied with little to no fanfare. Rarely is the case where a boxer decides to make the leap and does so with a promising financial contract waiting for him. It takes a special type of fighter to garner that type of reception, and Jesse Magdaleno is that type of fighter.
The 18 year old recent high school graduate turned heads in the amateurs where he fought his way to top spot finishes in the National Golden Gloves and U.S. Nationals championships while compiling an incredible 120-16 record.
Top Rank, who is based in Las Vegas, only had to look as far as their own backyard to find their newest potential star.
“In Jesse we look for an extraordinarily talented young man who will carry the banner of his hometown both in arenas in Las Vegas and elsewhere around the boxing world,” stated Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank.
Bruce Trampler, Top Rank’s Hall of Fame matchmaker, wasted no time in putting his newest pupil to work as Magdaleno will be immediately making his pro debut on November 6 in his native Las Vegas as a part of the under card for Juan Manuel Lopez’ upcoming title defense against Rafael Marquez.
Trampler added: “Jesse is 18 and has a chance to be a special fighter in years to come. Right now, he’s one of America’s best amateurs, and we believe he can become one of our best professionals.”
Being a member of the Top Rank stable of fighters, Magdaleno is in great company as he will one day get the opportunity to fight alongside the likes of global superstars Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, but there is one fighter in particular that made the Top Rank company feel like an actually family.
Jesse’s older brother Diego, who fights in the super featherweight division, is already fighting under the Top Rank banner, and will be taking part in the November 6 event as well as he puts his undefeated record on the line against Derrick Campos in an eight round affair.
“I always liked the way Top Rank handled and cared for my older brother Diego which is one of reasons I signed with Top Rank,” Jesse said. “It is a big company with a lot of history. I am very excited to be fighting for Top Rank and to be making my professional debut on the same card as my brother. I can’t wait for November 6.”
