While it’s undeniable that the weekend’s biggest fight card took place in Sydney, Australia where the UFC recently hosted it’s 127th pay-per-view event, there were a significant amount of televised fight cards that took place on the boxing side of the fight game. In total, there were five different televised events that took place this weekend. From club fights to title fights, here are the results of everything that happened in the world of the sweet science this past weekend:

Thursday Feb. 24, 2011 (Fox Sports Net) Jessie Vargas vs. Jose Armando Santa Cruz
In an eight round welterweight clash Las Vegas resident Jesse Vargas outpointed veteran Christian Favela at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA. Despite Favela spending most of the bout pressing the action it wasn’t nearly enough to convince the judges to rule the bout in his favor as all three gave Vargas the nod with unpopular scores of 79-73, 78-74 and 77-75 for his ability to land the harder and more calculated shots. The decision win helps improve Vargas’ record to 14-0 with 7 wins coming via knockout while the Mexican Favela falls to 28-32-7.

Bastie Samir vs. Eddie Hunter
The heavy handed Bastie Samir of Ghana made it ten consecutive wins all by way of knockout as he made Kent, Washington’s Eddie Hunter his latest victim. The bout lasted only three of its six scheduled rounds before referee Raul Caiz, Jr. waved it off at the 51 second mark. Hunter’s less than impressive record now stands at 4-6-2. It will be interesting to see how long Samir’s streak will hold up as he steps up in the level of opposition.

Friday February 25, 2011 (Telefutura) Danny Garcia vs. John Figueroa
The weekly “Solo Boxeo” fight series on Telefutura made a stop Four Points Sheraton in San Diego on Friday to showcase welterweight Danny Garcia as he took on John Figueroa in the main attraction of a Golden Boy Promotions event. The Philadelphia fighter was able to end the night early as Figueroa was deemed unable to continue by referee Jose Cobian at the 52 second mark of round number two. Just as his nickname indicates Danny “Swift” Garcia used his superior hand and foot speed to keep Figueroa from posing any sort of real threat. A left hook to the head of Figueroa marked the beginning of the end for the Puerto Rican fighter as it sent him reeling. Despite Figueroa never tasting the canvas, Garcia’s follow up barrage was enough to bring the bout to a close.

Marco Antonio Periban vs. Dion Savage
Marco Periban had the San Diego crowd on it’s feet as he needed just 33 seconds to dispose of previously undefeated Dion Savage of Flint, Michigan. It was a straight right by Periban that turned out the lights of Savage while Savage was trying to make his way inside. Following the devastating shot Savage hit the deck. While he beat the count, referee Tom Taylor sized up the Mayweather Promotions fighter and deemed him unable to continue. Savage falls to 10-1 with 6 KOs while the 26 year old Mexican prospect ups his mark to 11-0 with 8 KOs.

February 25, 2011 (Telemundo) Jesus Pabon vs. Americo Santos [WBO Latino Light Welterweight Title
The vacant WBO Latino light welterweight title was up for grabs in Palm Bay, Florida in a 12 round bout between Jesus Pabon and Americo Santos of Texas. Santos wasn't able to make it through the opening stanza with Pabon (17-1, 11 KOs) landing a picture perfect right hand that sent Santos to the canvas. The game Santos rose to his feet and, following getting the go ahead from referee Frank Gentile to continue, the two fighters resumed the action. Pabon pounced on his hurt opponent throwing follow up shots ultimately leading in both fighters getting tangled up and Santos on the floor again this time correctly being ruled a slip.

With Santos still not having completely recovered, Pabon jumped back on Santos (26-4-1, 22 KOs) and once again put his oppoent on the mat drawing another count by Gentile. Without having to reach the count of ten Gentile looked at the dazed fighter and recognized that Santos was unable to go on therefore awarding Pabon with the first regional title of his career.

Friday February 25, 2011 (ESPN2) Juan Carlos Burgos vs. Frankie Archuleta
The Million Dollar Elm Casino was home to Juan Carlos Burgos latest clash as he took on Frankie Archuleta in Tulsa, OK in the main event of last weeks installment of ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. Burgos successfully returned to the win column following his failed bid at the vacant WBC featherweight title against Hozumi Hasegawa last November. On the other hand, Archuleta entered the bout with two straight wins after dropping three of his previous four.

Burgos came out with something to prove as he wasted no time in taking the fight to New Mexico's Archuleta knocking him down three times in the second stanza. The first trip to the canvas was caused by a hard right-left combination. With Archuleta visibly shaken he was allowed to continue. Burgos wasted no time in taking the fight right back to his wounded opponent putting him back down two more times. The third man in the ring, Gerald Ritter officially brought a halt to the bout at 2:33 of the second round.

Saturday February 26, 2011 (Showtime) Miguel Acosta vs. Brandon Rios [WBA Lightweight Title]
The main event of Showtime’s telecast featured WBA Lightweight king Miguel Acosta as he put his belt on the line against undefeated contender Brandon Rios (27-0-1, 19 KOs) now of Oxnard, Calif.

Things weren’t going the way Rios had liked early on as he was taking some serious punishment from the champion. However he was able to turn things around in his favor as the fight entered the middle rounds. After a solid fifth round, Rios landed a two punch combination that sent the Venezuelan title holder down to the canvas. Fighting with new found confidence, Rios kept the pressure on Acosta over the next several rounds scoring additional knockdowns in the eighth and tenth rounds ultimately resulting in veteran referee Joe Cortez reaching the count of ten at the same moment that Acosta’s corner seemed to be ready to throw in the towel.

It was later revealed by Rios’ manager Cameron Dunkin that in addition to receiving the WBA lightweight title, Rios also walked away with a broken hand for his troubles. It is still unclear how long the injury will sideline the newly crowned champion. The win now brings the 24 year old Rios’ official record to 27-0-1, 20 KOs while Acosta falls to 28-4-2 with 22 KO’s.
