-Despite only being ranked 13th by the WBA, the once promising Audley Harrison somehow managed to land a title shot against current champion David Haye. The fight will take place on November 13 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.
-WBA Featherweight Champion Yuriorkis Gamboa looked sharp as he held a workout today at the Top Rank gym during a media day promoting his title defense against IBF king, Orlando Salido, this Saturday at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Juan Manuel Lopez, who holds the division’s WBO title, will be ringside to take in the fight. Lopez is set to defend his title against the always exciting Rafael Marquez on November 6.
-With Lopez and Marquez fighting on November 6, IBO Bantamweight Champ, Vic Darchinyan, will now defend his title against the undefeated Abner Mares on December 18 from either Las Vegas or California. The supporting bout will feature the rematch between IBF bantamweight king Yonnhy Perez and Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko. The winners of both bouts are expected to face eachother sometime next year.
-This Friday night, Showtime’s “Shobox: The Next Generation” Series will feature a 12 round clash between London’s John O’Donnell and New Jersey fighter Terrance Cauthen. The co-main event of the evening will mark the US television debut of undefeated heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury as he takes on Rich “Super” Power in a scheduled eight rounder.
-The Showtime Super Six World Boxing Classic bout between WBA Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward and challenger Andre Dirrell which is scheduled for September 25 will most likely be postponed as a venue has yet to be named. In addition to the WBA crown being up for grabs, the recently vacated WBC belt will be on the line as it was recently relinquished by Mikkel Kessler who was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an eye injury. The winner of the October 2 fight between Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham will be deemed the number one contender and mandatory challenger to whoever is the victor between Ward and Dirrell.
-A war of words has ensued between Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana regarding what Maidana is asking financially for their possible December 11 scheduled bout.
-This Saturday, Wladimir Klitschko defends his heavyweight championship in a rematch against Nigerian hard-hitter Samuel Peter. Klitschko took a unanimous decision despite being knocked down three times in their 2005 meeting. The bout can only be seen online at ESPN3.com beginning at 5 PM ET/ 2 PM PT.
-Former five-time world champion, Erik “El Terrible” Morales continues his puzzling comeback against the unheralded Willie Lomond this Saturday in the headlining bout of the “Mexican Fiesta” Pay-Per-View in Mexico City. The WBC International Welterweight title that Morales picked up in his last bout will be on the line.
-Future Hall-Of-Famer, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, celebrates his 39th birthday today. In just under two weeks he takes on Contender season one winner, Sergio Mora, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
-We would like to send our condolences to Bob Arum and the rest of the Arum family as his son John recently fell to his death while mountain climbing in the state of Washington. The son of the Top Rank promoter was 49 years old.
