Next Friday night, at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, bay area prospect Eloy Perez will take part in the evenings main event when he takes on Dominic Salcido in a ten round bout for Perez’ WBO NABO Super Featherweight title. Golden Boy Promotions recently announced via a press release that standouts Frankie Gomez and Gabino Saenz would be taking part on the Telefutura televised event.
While promising junior welterweight prospect Frankie Gomez is still waiting for an opponent he will be looking to extend his six fight unbeaten streak and the matching consecutive knockout streak that goes along with it. Gomez hasn’t even been a professional for a year as he made his debut in April when he Clayvonne Howard in the third round at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Since then he has strung together another five wins inside the distance.
His latest victim was Ricardo Calazada whom only lasted three rounds with Gomez just a few weeks ago at the Staples Center on the Shane Mosley vs. Sergio Mora undercard.
The other young upstart fighter to be announced as a part of the card is Indio’s own Gabino Saenz. With the hometown crowd behind him Saenz looks to notch his second straight win following his July debut which resulted in a 34 second knockout against Brandon Sanchez in nearby Ontario.
Golden Boy Promotions’ highly touted featherweight Charles Huerta, while still without a named opponent, is hoping to produce a win which could lead to a future world ranking. Huerta is coming off of four straight wins after being upset by Derrick Wilson in less than a minute during their 2009 clash. His last outing was at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California where Huerta finished off Brandon Arias in the final minutes of their six round bout.
Fans in Indio will also be able to watch 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist, Deontay Wilder, as he looks to gain his thirteenth win in as many fights. So far there has yet to be a fighter than has faced Wilder that has been able to make it to the final bell. The heavyweight fighter from Tuscaloosa, Alabama last win came less than two weeks ago when he steamrolled over Shannon Caudle in just over a minute.
Golden Boy Promotions is expected to make further announcements regarding opponents for the young fighters that will be showcased on next weeks Southen California televised event.
