Carey Price Shuts Out The Flyers In 3-0 Win For Montreal

I am a little surprised the Philadelphia Flyers(12-5-2,26pts) even bothered shooting in the third period in last night game against Montreal(12-5-1,25pts.) Before 40 minutes were up, goalie Carey Price had already stopped 32 shots, and continued the momentum in the third period to successfully shut out the Flyers. Price cinched up his second shut out in 4 games, and brought his career total to 7, which now includes 3 this year. On the back of Price’s goaltending abilities, the Habs now have won 4 straight.
Not wanting to let the game go to his head Price said “It’s always the next step that you have to look forward to. We can savor this one tonight, but then tomorrow we start preparing for the next one.”
Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban was more then happy to gloat for price when he said, “It started from the puck drop, He made some really good saves in the first period to keep us in it and he gave us an opportunity and we took the lead so we just kept on building after that, but he stood on his head. He made timely saves and he’s playing well right now.”
Another key to Montreal’s success is the way they are playing on the power play. As of last night, The Canadiens have scored seven power-play goals in their past four games. They scored only once with the man advantage through their first 14 games. Of course being first in the league with penalty killing percentage doesn’t hurt. They are able to kill penalties 89.7 percent of the time, and is a large reason why they are now first in their division.
Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky had 25 saves in the game, and lost for the first time in regulation in three weeks. The Flyers, who beat the Ottawa Senators 5-1 on Monday, had gone 9-0-1 since a 2-1 loss in Columbus on Oct. 25. Good goaltending wasn’t enough to get them the win Tuesday night.
Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was visibly frustrated after the game. He said “It’s hard to talk about that right now, We’re just coming off a game here, we’re here to win hockey games and we didn’t do that tonight, but the one thing you always want to look for is the work ethic and effort and it was there again tonight. We just couldn’t get there. We wanted to come out with the same zip in the third that we did in the second and it didn’t happen,” Laviolette said. “It was kind of frustrating at that point. Shots heavily in our favor, chances heavily in our favor after two periods and we’re down on the scoreboard and we’re fighting and we can’t seem to find a goal.”
Coach Laviolette was even forced to tip his cap to Carey Price to the media. “Their goaltender played pretty well tonight and we couldn’t find it, we couldn’t get on the board. I think that was frustrating. I think that frustration kind of built through the third period.”
The Canadiens play the Nashville Predators((7-6-3, 17pts) on Thursday night. The Flyers will play Thursday as well against the Tampa Bay Lightening(8-7-2, 18pts.)
