NBA Betting: Detroit Pistons at Sacramento Kings
Added on Nov 14, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
While its not exactly a marquee matchup, Sunday’s game between the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings should provide a decent NBA betting opportunity. Neither team has looked particularly good to start the season–Detroit is 3-6 SU but has won 3 of their last 4 games after starting the season 0-5. Sacramento is 3-5 SU, but they’ve been heading in the wrong direction since opening the season with 3 wins in their first 4 games.

Like most sports, NBA basketball rewards the contrarian bettor. Blindly laying points with home favorites is a one way ticket to the poor house and especially with teams of this class. At one point Sacramento’s Arco Arena ranked with Portland’s Rose Garden (and Memorial Coliseum before that) and the Energy Solutions Arena/Delta Center in Salt Lake City as one of the toughest home courts in the league. Those days are long gone. The Kings are 8-24-1 ATS in their last 33 home games including an 0-4 mark this season. Since 2008 they’re 33-52 ATS at Arco and 22-40 ATS in non conference play.
So basically this is a play against Sacramento, but the Pistons have some talent and they’ve been a profitable pointspread team in the early going with a 6-3 ATS mark. Since their slow start the Pistons have been winning in competitive matchups, though continue to struggle when the step up in class. Sacramento, on the other hand, is losing to everyone of late. Dropping a home game to the LA Lakers is one thing, losing by 9 to Minnesota (as -11 favorites no less) quite another. Detroit is 1-1 on their current West Coast road trip, losing to Portland and beating the Clippers. With this game and a matchup against Golden State on deck they’ve got a realistic shot at a winning road trip. At any rate, there’s no reason they can’t compete with Sacramento and we’ll gladly take the points against one of the worst home court pointspread performers in the NBA.
