After the game against Chicago, in which Brodeur left, everyone said it was a minor injury and he would be back in time for Friday nights game against The New York Rangers. Brodeur himself even said that he expected to be back on the Ice against the Rangers. He even went to practice this morning to see how it felt, and then decided he would not be playing Friday night.
Brodeur talked with the media after morning skate “I thought I was going to be able to play, When I first went on the ice, I really thought I was going to be OK, and it’s a couple of little things I have to do with my stick. If it was the glove side, I would have been OK to play, but because I have to hold my stick, it’s a little too painful.” Brodeur added it felt better, but he needed to see how it felt. “If I took the morning off, I probably would have played tonight, but I needed to go on and see how I felt,”
Brodeur reassured everyone “I’m fine, just not ready to play today, I thought I was going to be OK, but there’s still a little pain in the elbow. If I’m not 100 percent, there’s no sense in me going out there in a big game like that. I’ve got plenty of strength in my hand, my fingers, everything is fine, the wrist is fine,” He continued It’s just extending my arm with having a weight at the end, it’s just too much of a sharp pain for me on the elbow. I just wanted to handle on the rebounds and felt it really like a sharp pain, From there I said it’s not worth it.”
In for Brodeur will be back up Johan Hedberg. He will make his second start, and fourth appearance of the season.
The New Jersey Devils were scared when Martin Brodeur left the game against the Blackhawks on Wednesday night in Chicago. He was forced to leave the game when a shot from Patrick Kane struck him, and you could tell it immediately bothered him. Play resumed for 21 seconds, and then he left the ice. Thankfully for the devils all the x-rays came back negative, and it looks like its just a bad bruise.
“It was a shot from Kane in the corner,” Brodeur said. “I never saw it. The feeling was always there, I just lost strength. It’s not pulled or torn, I just banged it. From past experiences with bruises, usually it takes a couple of days to feel 100 percent.” He was confident he would be back quickly, but said “We’ll see how this one reacts.”
