Brodeur Leaves In The Second, Devils Get Win

The New Jersey Devils had a scare when Martin Brodeur was forced to leave the game against the Blackhawks on Wednesday night in Chicago. He was forced to leave the game when a shot from Patrick Kane struck him, and you could tell it immediately bothered him. Play resumed for 21 seconds, and then he left the ice. Thankfully for the devils all the x-rays came back negative, and it looks like its just a bad bruise.
“It was a shot from Kane in the corner,” Brodeur said. “I never saw it. The feeling was always there, I just lost strength. It’s not pulled or torn, I just banged it. From past experiences with bruises, usually it takes a couple of days to feel 100 percent.” He was confident he would be back quickly, but said “We’ll see how this one reacts.”
The Devils were able to get the win Wednesday night (5-3,) and move themselves out of last place. New Jersey coach John MacLean felt the injury probably helped them a little bit. “I thought we played hard, When Marty went down, they got momentum, had a couple calls go their way for power plays” He concluded.
It was a close game, and the Hawks found themselves in a familiar place. Coach Quennville of the Blackhawks thought the same thing. This is very comparable to the (other) games we lost, It’s 2-2 in the third. We’ve got to get it to overtime. We’ve got to manufacture points. When you do that, you can manufacture wins.”
These are games the Blackhawks need to be winning. They have have dropped 3 out of the last 4 games, and 4 out of their last 5 at home. Thats the one place they have historically been able to take care of business. The Hawks were able to tie the game early in the third period, but thats when the offense of the Devils turned on. Both Bradley Mills and Jamie Langenbrunner were able to light lamp. Stallberg was able to get one back for the Hawks, but they didn’t have enough time left as there was only 30 seconds left in the final frame.
It’s not panic time yet for the Blackhawks, but the team is definitely sick of losing games. Especially when the games are this close at the end. They play the Thrashers in Atlanta this Saturday night.
