Quarterback

Troy Smith, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers came into this NFL regular season with high hopes of winning the NFC West division title as they seemed to have all the right pieces of the puzzle in place, but things haven’t gone the way they anticipated and they will be playing catch up from here on out.

Fortunately, the 49ers might have taken a step in the right direction after backup quarterback Troy Smith stepped in for Alex Smith. It is a little too early to say that the former Heisman trophy winner is the answer for this team, but so far so good.

Running Back

LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This season has been a rebirth of sorts for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they have gone from one of the worst teams in the league to arguably one of the best. One of the reasons for their surprisingly good play has been their resurgent running game with running back LeGarrette Blount coming to life!

Wide Receiver

Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders aren’t a team that really gets any kind of consideration in terms of fantasy football, but this season that seems to be changing as players like quarterback Jason Campbell, running back Darren McFadden and wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey have become forces to be reckoned with.

It might be a little premature to pickup Heyward-Bey, but I believe he will only get better from here on out.

Tight End

Todd Heap, Baltimore Ravens

Every single week the Baltimore Ravens seem to continue to improve, especially on the offensive side of the football, but one of the players on offense that seems to get overlooked is tight end Todd Heap.

He may not be the fantasy football beast he once was, but he can put up numbers and is a solid pickup for anyone that needs a tight end.

Defense

Oakland Raiders

Like I said earlier, the Oakland Raiders have been virtually nonexistent in terms of fantasy football over the years, but this season they have come on strong both on offense and defense.
