Raphael Torres scored 92 goals in his 3 year career with the Edmonton Oilers, and when he visited his old team on Tuesday night he did something he has never done. Torres scored his first career hat trick against the Oilers, as the Canucks were looking for their first road win of 2010.

“I had a lot of good times here,This franchise was nothing but good to me. If you don’t produce, the have to make changes. It’s a nice feeling, obviously, but the win is more important right now” Said Torres after the game. Torres’ 3rd goal was the go ahead for the Canucks to get them their first road win.

With 6 goals in 11 games, the former first-round draft choice of the Islanders is looking like a steal for a million dollars. Many people accuse Torres of being streaky in his career, and he is quick to agree with them. “That’s my problem, I keep thinking it’s just going to happen out there. I tend to forget that you have to go out there and make it happen.”

Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault said of Torres and his performance; “He’s been a real solid player for us, He came to camp with a great attitude and real good conditioning. Since day one, he’s doing the right things on the ice. He’s doing the right things off the ice. He’s played real well for us.”

The media asked Vigneault if he thought Torres put a little extra into his play because of who they were playing. I don’t think he prepared differently, even though it’s the Oilers, Raffi, since he’s been with us, has been real professional and prepared hard to play every game. I don’t think tonight was anything different.”

Twenty-four hours after his first shut out of the season Robert Luongo is happy with the momentum. “We’re finding ways to win, That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day. Whether we’re at home or on the road, we have to play the same style of hockey and get the job done.”

The Canucks really tightened the screws on the Oilers in the seconds half of the first period. They went up three goals to none in less than four minutes, and thats including two by former Oiler Raffi. Edmonton was able to put one on the board in the second, and added two more in the beginning of the third to tie the game. Then Raffi struck again, and gave the Canucks the winning goal.

Oilers coach Tom Renney commented about the first period; “It’s immature hockey, I don’t know what you hang that on. I mean, we have experienced guys in our line-up, too, who should help us do the right thing. It’s not easy to fall behind 3-0 to anybody, never mind Vancouver.” He was obviously frustrated in his team early on.

The Canucks play the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
