Kid Chocolate Gets Picked Up By Golden Boy Promotions

It seems like the folks over at Golden Boy Promotions rarely let a week slip by without adding another major name to their ever growing stable of fighters. This week the spotlight shines on Brooklyn boxing product and latest fighter to take on the moniker “Kid Chocolate”, Peter Quillin.
“Peter Quillin has that rare mix of skill, charisma and desire, and you need all three to become a star in this game,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. “He has all the tools and now it’s just a question of getting him in the right fights against the best in the world. We know he’s ready for those challenges.”
In the past five years Quillin have compiled 21 wins, the majority of them coming inside of the scheduled distance, while managing to stay unbeaten. He seemed to be on the fast track to stardom after a decision win over the clearly faded but still recognizable Antwun Echols in June of 2008 and then re-entered the ring just three months later with an impressive tenth round TKO over Sam Hill.
Unfortunately for Quillin he remained on the shelf for the following year and a half.
He finally made his return to the squared circle with a triumphant ten round decision win over the hard hitting Ecuadorian, Fernando Zuniga which took place at New Jersey’s Prudential Center in February of this year.
Team Quillin looks to ensure that their charge is far more active than the case of the last couple of years.
“We appreciate the opportunity to work with the number one promoter in the world in Golden Boy Promotions,” said Quillin’s manager John Seip. “We want to achieve Peter’s dream of becoming a World Champion and this is the perfect time in his career to team with Golden Boy Promotions.”
Largely due to his recent inactivity, the Freddie Roach trained fighter is currently unranked by any of the four major sanctioning bodies, but just as his manager stated, Quillin has his sights set on standing atop the middleweight division.
“It’s been a long road to get here, but now that I’m with Golden Boy Promotions and I can’t wait for the future,” said Quillin. “I’m healthy, focused and ready to get back in the ring as soon as possible. I know Golden Boy expects a lot out of me and I’m looking forward to following in Bernard Hopkins’ footsteps as the company’s next middleweight champion.”
Golden Boy Promotions is expected to make an official announcement for their debut of Quillin in the very near future.
