Carmelo Anthony: ‘I’m Schrodinger’s Cat’

Carmelo-Anthony

Athletes surprise us sometimes and not always in negative ways–who would have thought that Denver Nuggets’ superstar Carmelo Anthony was also into quantum theory?  Yep–today he was talking about his situation with the Nuggets and he made the bold statement that after this season he’s either going to leave Denver or stay in Denver.  He cleverly drew an analogy to Schrodinger’s Cat where ‘melo posited that he’s simultaneously with the Nuggets and not with the Nuggets.

OK, he didn’t really say that but that’s the first thing that my overeducated mind thought of when Carmelo gave this painfully self reverential diatribe of where he stands with the Nuggets (if you don’t know what ‘Schrodinger’s Cat’ is hit up ‘The Google’):

“It ain’t got nothing to do with the new GM [Masai Ujiri], Josh [Kroenke, team president], the players. For me, I feel it’s a time for change.”

“If I do nothing now, I’m never going to do anything. I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay.”

‘melo has a $65 million offer sitting on the table and here’s what he thinks about that.  Good luck figuring out what he means:

“But as far as the money that’s on the table, I understand the money that’s on the table. I understand it’s a lot. But it’s more than the money. Right now I’m here, I’m with the Nuggets.”

Translated–’I want to go ball in NYC’.  Since Denver is closer to title contention than either the Knicks or Nets plus can offer more money under the ‘Larry Bird Exemption’ that’s really the only rational explanation.  He’s from NYC and played college ball at Syracuse so this makes sense–of course he just can’t come out and *say* to the people of Denver that he’s made a decision to go play elsewhere.  So the Nuggets have to decide whether to swing a deal for Anthony or let him walk away at the end of the season.
