Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones has been trying to work his way back into relevance as a NFL player, but his comeback year has been cut short due to injury.  The Cincinnati Bengals placed Jones on the injured reserve list on Tuesday due to a herniated disk in his neck.  He suffered the injury late in Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.  He was examined by a specialist on Monday who indicated that surgery would be needed.  Jones is going to get input from other medical specialists before going under the knife, though his agent Tom Hunter said that even if surgery is required that it wouldn’t necessarily be the end of his client’s career:

“It looks very promising for him. Do not ever count this man out. He is going to be back.”

Jones was the Tennessee Titans’ first round draft choice in 2005, but ran his career into the ground with a long list of arrests and other run ins with law enforcement.  He was suspended for the entire 2007 season but got another chance with Dallas the following year.  That ended when he got into a drunken brawl with his own bodyguard in a strip club bathroom late in the 2008 season.  He was out of football entirely in 2009.

The Bengals agreed to give Jones what is likely his last shot, and to date he’d taken advantage of it.  He played well in the preseason and earned a spot on the roster as the #3 cornerback and was also used on kick returns.  According to his agent, Jones’ has now learned to find more positive outlets for his off-field energy:

“He’s learned to channel that energy in the right direction. That’s why I’m even more optimistic, as Adam is, that he’s going to bounce back and be fine. Indications are that he’s going to be OK.”

Jones made a big play during the loss to Atlanta, stripping receiver Roddy White after a catch and returning the ball 54 yards for a touchdown to give the Bengals a 25-24 lead.
