Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec is headed back to the ice. The Thrashers have sent goalie Peter Mannino to AHL Chicago, and that sets the stage for Pavelec’s return. Pavelec said he felt fine following Monday’s practice, the first full workout he’s had since being cleared from concussion symptoms. He said he still needs another practice or two to get fully used to the speed of the game again. Ondrej even commented to the press “They said I’m ready to go, I need some practice to get into game shape. This was the first time. Hopefully the last time something like this happens.” This has lead to the speculation that he may get an AHL game of his own in the crease for the Chicago Wolves. The same team he helped win a championship with in 2008.
Coach Ramsay has said he may be back with Atlanta faster then they had hoped, and maybe even the game with St. Louis. “We haven’t made up our mind yet, but, possibly, St. Louis would make some sense,” Ramsay said. “I haven’t made a final decision but I’m guessing that’s where we are heading.”
As reported on Sportsbettingworld.com , The Atlanta Thrashers had quite a scare during there game with the Washington Capitals. While the puck was in the Capitals zone, goaltender Ondrej Pavelec collapsed on the ice. The fact that this happened behind the play seemed to make it even more startling. Also, when Pavelec collapsed he knocked his head hard on the ice, rendering him unconscious. Medical staff immediately ran to his aid, and Pavelec was eventually taken off the ice on a stretcher. That was the last thing anyone wanted to see.
Pavelec eventually regained consciousness on his way the hospital, and seemed to be in good spirits. After a battery of tests on his blood and his brain, it was determined he had neurocardiogenic syncope episode, or basically a fainting spell. He will continue to undergo tests on his heart, his brain and as well as genetic testing. The main reason given is for precautionary reasons. If the tests come back negative he could be cleared to play when the concussions symptoms subside.
