Eagles’ Reid Names Vick Starter For 11/7 Game Against Colts

I can't quit you Mike...

Philadelphia Eagles’ coach Andy Reid hasn’t lost his mancrush on Michael Vick, that’s for sure.  The closing gun for the Eagles lopsided loss to Tennessee hadn’t stopped echoing before the corpulent Reid blurted out that the NFL’s favorite presumably rehabilitated dog torturer/killer would be Philly’s starting quarterback for the November 7 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Reid wasn’t exactly effusive when asked who’d start the next game:

“It’s Mike.”

Of course the genius forgot that he’s got *two* guys named Mike at the quarterback position, but since #3 QB Mike Kafka hasn’t seen any action this year everyone assumed he was referring to Vick.

Kevin Kolb started the loss against the Titans and didn’t have a terrible game but since Reid has been publicly wishing for Vick’s return since he was injured it was a foregone conclusion that he’d be back to #2 on the depth chart as soon as–if not before–Vick was 100% healthy.  Kolb threw for 231 yards with a touchdown and 2 interceptions, but clearly Reid just can’t quit Vick.

Vick says that he won’t be able to tell if he’s 100% until he gets hit, but his ribs feel good:

“I’ve got some time to heal, some more time to get stronger. If they really needed me down the line, I probably could have [played]. If Kevin or Mike ould have went down, I could have gotten through.”

And obviously Kolb is disappointed that he’s back in the doghouse…..uh….the #2 quarterback slot on the depth chart:

“I enjoy playing out there, and I want to continue to play. But, I’ll say it again, I always trust him [Reid]. And I trust him now.”

At least Reid was complementary about the good things Kolb did:

“He had some good plays, phenomenal plays. We’ve got to continue to work with the pressure and make sure that we protect him. We’ve got to make sure we give him the right plays.”

Which explains absolutely nothing about why Reid is making the quarterback change.  How this guy has kept his job for over a decade is completely beyond me.
