The Tennessee Titans got some good news earlier this week when tests on Vince Young’s injured ankle and knee revealed no bone or ligament damage. As a result, the earlier prognosis that he was most likely out for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia has been substantially upgraded. He’s still not certain to play, but he’s been upgraded to ‘probable’ on the NFL injury report. Young hasn’t practiced all week and was wearing a wrap on his left knee and walking gimpy on Thursday, but everyone involved is now optimistic that he’ll be able to go on Sunday. Young injured his leg during Monday’s walkover victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars–he dove for a fumbled snap and ended up with his leg twisted beneath him on the ground.

Young has always been a very durable player, so if he’s even close to 100% he’ll go.  Speaking the media on Thursday he termed it a ‘game time decision’:

“It’s basically day to day still and making that decision on Sunday. So right now I mean just continue to keep treating it and pretty much do some things tomorrow to see how it feels.”

He also rightfully gave some props to the ‘man upstairs’ for being able to walk away from a twisting injury without anything torn:

“To walk away from it with nothing torn, that’s a real good thing. All respect to God on that.”

Head coach Jeff Fisher basically reiterated Young’s comments on his status:

“Again, it’s been a day-to-day thing. We want him to play, he wants to play, but he is unable to practice right now because of his injuries. So we’ll see how he is tomorrow. Tomorrow is Friday.”

And Young’s condition in Friday’s practice will likely determine whether he’ll start or whether backup Kerry Collins will get the nod.  Collins played solid, mistake free football against Jacksonville.  Collins jammed the middle finger of his throwing hand in the game, but he’s been practicing and will definitely be available to start if Young can’t go.  Young is hopeful that he’ll be able to make his 18th consecutive start this weekend against the Eagles:

“I’ve been delivering the ball in the pocket pretty good… Knowing the type of aggressiveness the Eagles have, sometimes you’re going to have to take the ball and make some moves downfield in order to keep the chains moving.”

After Sunday’s home game against Philadelphia, the Titans have a much tougher test making the long trip westward for a game against the San Diego Chargers on October 31.
