UFC Veteran Chris Leben was arrested for DUI this past Tuesday in Honolulu following a crash. Hawaiinewsnow.com is reporting that while Chris Leben was driving without a licence, or insurance, he lost control of his truck and crashed it on the H1 highway. The Officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence, and he was released on $1000 bail later in the morning. He is scheduled to appear at Honolulu District Court November 22, 2010.
This is not Leben’s first DUI charge. On April 30, 2008, Leben was arrested in Oregon by Clackamas Count Sheriffs for a DUI charge from an earlier date. He was kept in jail because he was violating probation. Leben was later sentenced to 35 days in jail, and the UFC was forced to move his fight with Michael Bisping from UFC 85 to UFC 89.
It is no surprise to anyone that Chris Leben has had issues with Alcohol. Since he was on the first season of The Ultimate Fighter, that showed Chris in various states of consciousness, he has been some what vocal about his demons. He has also been vocal about the changes he has made in his life with regards to being clean and sober.
Leben seemed to have turned things around in 2010. He only fought once and lost in 2009 because of his positive drug test for steroids and suspension after the Bisping fight. He has since been on a three fight win streak, including fighting Aaron Simpson and Yoshihiro Akiyama in under 30 days.
It will be interesting to see how the UFC reacts to this, as this is his second time he jeopardized a UFC pay per view. Leben was expected to fight Brian Stann at UFC 125, and that fight will probably be scrapped because of his recent arrest.
