We May Get To See Jose’ Aldo In The UFC

Brazilian MMA Magazine, and news outlet, Tatame reported earlier that WEC featherweight Champ Jose Aldo is interested in testing himself out at 155 pounds. When you take into account that Zuffa owns the UFC as well as the WEC, the possibilities of super fights and cross promotions seem endless.
Jose Aldo even mentions in the interview that he was offered a fight with Kenny Florian, and apparently he turned it down. “They made the proposal. I wanna fight, it can be at WEC or in the UFC” Aldo said, but his managers turned it down. Aldo said he is open to any fights, but as of right now is really concentrating on defending his belt. Many writers are already putting him in their pound for pound lists, as the hype continues to build for the Brazilian phenom.
Kenny Florian, when hearing about the potential fight, is already campaigning for the fight through his manager. “I heard the rumor and we would take the fight if it would have been offered..Actually, we really want that fight.”
Just to hear the news that a WEC fighter was offered a fight in the UFC is making waves. Zuffa has done a really good job at keeping them seperate, and never has a fighter fought in both companies at the same time. When the WEC phased out its heavier divisions, fighters like Brian Stan, Stave Cantwell, and Carlos Condit were brought into the UFC, but never did they return for more WEC bouts. Bringing Aldo into the UFC makes sense for a few fights, but to take him away from the WEC seems improbable. He is drawing way to much attention to the company, and not that the WEC is suffering, but they DO need a marquee fighter other then Urijah Faber (who was dismantled by Jose Aldo earlier in the year.)
Aldo also commented on who is next opponent might be: “We have a little time off now, but it’s just a little rest because I’ll have another belt defense in January and I think maybe it’ll be against Mark Hominick, who is great Canadian on KickBoxing. So, I’ll fight in January, but I still don’t know the date yet.” Some people are saying there is no one left in his weight division for him to fight that would be competitive. Aldo says “I see some more challenges. Like I’ve said before, I’m just an employee, so I fight against whoever they tell me to. I can fight anybody, I respect all fighters, so there are many fighters I can fight. Many people speculate about the possibility of changing divisions, but it’s up to my managers.”
