Revis, Pace Questionable For Jets’ Game At Denver
Added on Oct 15, 2010 by Jason Kearney in
Fresh off a big win over Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football the New York Jets now head west for a potentially tricky road game against the Denver Broncos. They’re hoping that both cornerback Darrelle Revis and linebacker Calvin Pace will be able to play against the pass happy Broncos—both have been recovering from injuries and saw action against Minnesota. While the team has not made a decision on their availability against the Broncos, both players will travel to Denver. Currently both Pace and Revis are listed as ‘questionable’ on the NFL injury report.
The Jets have a solid run defense, but they can use all the help they can get to slow down Kyle Orton and a dangerous Broncos’ passing attack. Orton has had four straight 300+ yard passing games and is on pace to pass for 5,000 yards. He’s 26 yards shy of having passed for 300+ in every game this season. They’ve had their own injury issues—particularly at running back—but they pose a very challenging matchup for a Jets’ defense that struggled to stop good passing teams with Revis out of the lineup. Denver’s running game is substandard, but Pace would be valuable to help mount an effective pass rush against Orton.
Coach Rex Ryan said that both Pace and Revis will have their condition evaluated after the team arrives in Denver:
“After talking to Darrelle and all that, we’re going to take him to Denver, one way or the other, because he wants to be with his team, whether he can play or not. And that’s where I want him, also. Hopefully he’ll be ready to play. Both of them will make the trip.”
Ryan did sound very positive in describing Revis’ performance at Thursday’s practice:
“He looked good today. Again, though, it’s too early to say he’s definitely going to play. I’m still not comfortable with that.”
About using Revis in a limited role against Denver:
“If that’s what we think ends up being the best thing for us and the best thing for Darrelle, absolutely.”
He also had positive news about Pace, who played his first game of the year on Monday after recovering from a broken foot. Ryan said he was sore, but generally in good shape:
“He felt good today. Yesterday, he was probably worse than Darrelle. That’s how sore he was, but he did really well today, did exactly what was asked.”
The Jets will head into a bye week following this game, so there are plenty of good arguments for keeping Revis and Pace out of the Denver game to give them extra time to heal up. On the other hand, the Jets’ need them to play if they’re going to win against a quarterback in very good form.
