Kyle-Orton

More NFL betting for Sunday as the New York Jets head to Denver for a game against the Broncos.  The Jets took care of Brett Favre and the Vikings on Monday Night Football earlier this week, while the Broncos are off a loss to Baltimore.  The Jets improved to 4-1 SU on the season with their win over Minnesota while Denver has slumped to a 2-3 record.

Tough scheduling spot for the Jets–they’re not only off a short week having played on Monday, it was a big game against Brett Favre and Randy Moss.  Now they have to go into the altitude of Denver and try to regroup to take on a Denver team that won’t provide much intrinsic motivation with a bye week on deck.  Never underestimate the difficulty of playing at altitude in cities like Denver (and in basketball places like Salt Lake City).  Even for professional athletes it’s tough if you’re not used to it.  That’s why Denver has always been such a tough place for visiting teams to play and why Utah and Denver invariably have some of the best home records in the NBA.

Denver is an erratic team and their running back corps has been decimated by injury.  Despite that, they’re still very dangerous.  Kyle Orton is very quietly having a monster season–he’s had four straight 300+ yard passing games and is on pace to pass for 5,000 yards.  He’s 26 yards shy of having passed for 300+ in every game this season.  New York has Darrelle Revis who obviously is as good as anyone in the league, but he’s just coming back from injury and may not even play here–he’s listed as ‘questionable’ on the current injury report.  The Jets are heading into a bye week so they may want to rest him until their 10/31 home game against Green Bay.  One of the reasons the Jets rushed Revis back so quickly to face Minnesota and Randy Moss is that the rest of the secondary struggled in his absence.

Denver may not be a great team against the run statistically, but they’ve been able to contain some pretty good running backs including Chris Johnson who was held to 53 yards on the ground.  The Broncos have a lot of injuries, but this is a tricky game for the Jets.  We’ll take the points with the Broncos at home and look for a mild upset.
