Youngstown, Ohio based trainer, Jack Loew, appears to be extremely confident of a win as he prepares his charge in former World Middleweight Champion, Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) for his November bout with Brian Vera at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“Kelly entered this training camp in superb condition, weighing less than 170 pounds. After hearing what Vera has already been saying about us, he should consider wearing a life vest into the ring because Kelly is taking him into deep water on November 13,” stated Loew.

He continues, “like the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kelly is looking to return to the top spot and it starts with the sinking of the U.S.S. Brian Vera of Austin, Texas. I hope there will be a microphone in Vera’s corner so the world will hear them issue the order to abandon ship!”

Loew and Pavlik have recently set up training camp in the city of California which is located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. The trainer and fighter look to get back to their winning ways following their surprising loss to current middleweight champion, Sergio Martinez in April at the Boardwalk Hall.

The loss to Martinez marked just the second of his decade long career. The first came a year and a half prior at the hands of the legendary Bernard Hopkins via unanimous decision also at New Jersey’s Boardwalk Hall.

Before his initial defeat, the fighting pride of Youngstown amassed a solid record of 31-0 before challenging then champion Jermain Taylor for the World Middleweight Title. After tasting the canvas early, Pavlik weathered the storm brought on by the champion to ultimately deliver a knockout shot of his own in the seventh round handing Taylor his first loss and in doing so staked his claim as the rightful heir to the middleweight crown.

The pair would meet in the ring again short of five months later in a non-title 12 round bout that once again had Pavlik as the victor this time by way of a unanimous decision.

Pavlik’s initial title defense took place in June of 2008 as he took on the unheralded Gary Lockett of Wales. Lockett only lasted three rounds before the bout was called to a halt.

The aforementioned loss to Hopkins took place the same year and was contested in the light heavyweight division sparing Pavlik from having to put his middleweight championship on the line.

It was on the line, however, three fights later against Martinez, leaving Pavlik without his championship for the first time in three years. In order to once again stand atop the division he once reigned, he first must come through next month with a win against Brian Vera.

Loew doesn’t just expect a win from Pavlik, he expects it come it devastating fashion as he declared: “Brian Vera is going to discover on November 13 that his new world really is flat … flat on his back.”
