Blake Comeau is already turning out to be a play maker this year for the Islanders. He already has 3 goals in the first two games of the season, and his confidence seems to be growing with every game minute that passes.

Comeau commented after the game “I feel I made some big strides in the last half of last year, and I hope I can keep it going.” He also had this to say about this about his recent attitude change: “I’m not sure what clicked in, but I think I’ve got a shoot-first mentality right now, where before I was always looking to pass. My confidence is really rolling right now, and I want to keep going.”

Comeau got the scoring started in what would turn out to be a back and forth shoot out. After Ranger’s defenseman Del Zotto mishandled the puck, Blake was able to pick it up ten feet in front of the goal, and fire it on goal. Lundquist was able to handle the initial shot, but had little to no chance at stopping the rebound shot. However, the lead did not hold up more than 70 seconds when Islanders goalie Dipietro gave up a power play goal out of the slot from Dubinsky. Another mistake by Del Zotto, who tried to play an airborne puck, put the Rangers back up on top. Josh Baily was in the right place at the right time, and put a slick wrist shot by Lundquist minute before the first period ended.

Although the shots on goal were virtually even; the second period belonged to the rangers. Both Del Zotto and Dan Girardi were able to score to go ahead of the Islanders. In the closing minute of the second frame, Islanders’ forward Matt Moulson scored to put the Isle’s back up on top.

The first half of the third period seemed to be a battle, but the Rangers were able to get the game tied up again. Artem Anisimov, with assists from Gaborik and Callahan, was able to get one in the back of the net. This is where the wheels seemed to fall off for the New York Rangers.

Ranger penalties added up quickly when Callahan and Staal were called for Tripping and High-sticking respectively. The Islanders were able to convert both penalties into power play goals, with goals from PA Parenteau and Cameau, and the Rangers found themselves down by one. After pulling the goalie, The Rangers gave up their final goal, which was a wrist shot from Frans Nielsen, and they with the final score of 6 to 4.

Islanders Coach Scott Gordon was happy how the game ended, as well as how the home stand went. “I think for our team, getting three points out of four at home is important”. “We have 12 of our next 14 on the road, so the fact that we were able to come away with these points…and for us to be able to do it in the manner that we did it…obviously, we’re thrilled.”

Rangers Coach John Tortorella was bothered they didnt get the win, but he felt it wasn’t a terrible showing for his team either. I saw a lot of good things from within the club in this game, but we come away empty. I’m not unhappy with the club. There are some good things there.”
