Big NL West series in The Mile High City this weekend as the San Francisco Giants visit the Colorado Rockies.  The Giants took a 2-1 decision in a hellacious pitching duel on Friday night (total of 5 hits for both teams) and maintain a 1/2 game lead over the San Diego Padres atop the division.  Colorado has now lost five straight and is 4.5 games back.

The Colorado Rockies used the San Diego Padres’ late season swoon to make themselves a factor in the NL West race, and now they’ve got a good chance to make up some more ground.  The Rockies enter this game having lost five straight but four of these games were on the road where Colorado has struggled all season long.  They’re back at home now, and they’ve got one of the best records in baseball at Coors Field.  Rockies are 52-26 +13.7 units in their home ballpark.  Giants aren’t a bad road team (41-38 +5.2 units) but Colorado is a notoriously tough venue for visiting teams.  Colorado’s home batting average alone is an insane .304 and they average 6.0 runs per game on their home field.  After a great pitching battle on Friday between Tim Lincecum and Jhoulys Chacin we look for the scoring to heat up in this game.

Barry Zito has looked sharp lately, but he’s not been a good investment on the road this season.  The veteran lefthander has a 4.93 ERA away from home where the Giants have lost 9 of his 15 starts.  Jason Hammel, conversely, hasn’t looked particularly impressive in his last three starts but he’s been a solid financial play in Colorado’s home games–the Rockies have won 11 of his 15 home assignments.  Very important game for Colorado and with a ‘hittable’ pitcher on the mound we look for their offense to win this game.

Bet Colorado (Hammel) -135 over San Francisco (Zito)
