Efrain-Escudero

Former TUF winner Efrain Escudera was cut from the UFC roster this week after losing by third-round rear-naked choke to up-and-comer Charles Oliveira at Ultimate Fight Night 22. The firing came as a slight shock, considering Escudera had won his previous fight against Dan Lauzon.

Escudero becomes only the second TUF winner to ever be cut from the UFC, the first being Travis Lutter who lost both of his post TUF fights. Escudero and Lutter do have one thing in common: they both missed weight in big fights following winning the show. If there is one thing the UFC doesn’t stand for, it is missing weight, especially by multiple pounds.

Escudero started his post TUF career by knocking out lightweight prospect Cole Miller in the first round. Ironically, Cole Miller opened up the Fight Night 22 card with a career highlight knockout of TUF winner Ross Pearson.

Wow, there are a lot of The Ultimate Fighter winners. It kind of reminds me of Josh Barnett’s recent quote on The MMA Hour, “The UFC, I think they’re not really in a spot where they need to acquire anybody. It’s probably better for them to just take a newbie and make him look great than to actually have to deal with great fighters.”

“Hello true fan I was released by the Ufc today speaking to strikeforce and bellator,” Escudero Tweeted. “Taking a week off and make my way back!!!!!”

Escudero compiled a 3-2 record in the UFC without consecutive losses.
