Big Sunday of NFL betting action ahead and we’ll take a look at a non-conference game between the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins.  Houston opened their season with a big win over the Indianapolis Colts, while the Redskins shocked their longtime rivals the Dallas Cowboys at home.   There’s a bit of a connection between the teams as Kyle Shanahan was the Texans’ offensive coordinator last season and is now with his dad (Mike Shanahan) in Washington.

Brutal scheduling spot for the Texans–they’re off that big win over the Indianapolis Colts, which was arguably the biggest in franchise history.  Next week, they return home for another huge game against their in-state rivals the Dallas Cowboys.  In between, they have to head to DC for this game against a dangerous Redskins team that won’t inspire them much.  It would be bad enough as a letdown spot off the Indy game, but with the lookahead to the Cowboys its a double whammy.

We mentioned in the opening that Kyle Shanahan was the Texans’ offensive coordinator last year and that fact is significant for more than nostalgic trivia.  It means he’ll know the Houston offense inside and out.  The Redskins have decent talent–their problem last year was coaching with Jim Zorn and his staff simply being in over their heads.  That’s most definitely not the case with Mike Shanahan, et. al.  The Texans also have a rep of being a somewhat ‘soft’ team and that’ll be put to the test against a physical Washington side.  Houston is still without linebacker Brian Cushing, and his absence doesn’t make them any tougher.  Winning on the road in the NFL is never easy, but its all the more difficult in spots like this.  We’ll look for the Texans to come out flat and the Redskins to win outright.
