Where Will Vincent Jackson End Up?

A decision by the NFL Players’ union has cleared the way for Vincent Jackson’s six-game suspension to be reduced to four games if the Chargers deal him prior to next Wednesday, September 22. This is good news for Jackson, but it by no means guarantees a trade will be completed. The biggest obstacle remains San Diego’s exorbitant asking price, which last we checked was still a second- and third-round pick. Now, the team might be willing to lower their demands if for no other reason than to rid themselves of a headache that has lingered for months.
If Vinnie does get dealt, there’s no shortage of possible landing spots. Here are five destinations that make the most sense for the disgruntled Pro Bowl wideout.
5. San Francisco – This is one team that hasn’t been linked to Jackson, but Michael Crabtree’s poor play and even poorer attitude have some believing he could be a bust in the making. The addition of Jackson would send a clear message to Crabs that he needs to get his act together, as well as give Alex Smith a legitimate number one receiver.
4. Washington – Have you seen the ‘Skins receiving corps? After Santana Moss it’s abysmal. I mean 54-year-old Joey Galloway is starting. Ugh. If Mike Shanahan is serious about making a playoff run, then he’ll do whatever it takes to add Jackson’s talents to the offense.
3. Oakland – It would be poetic justice to ship Vinnie to the Black Hole where he would likely fade into obscurity like most big name players have done in recent years. Trading within the division usually isn’t recommended, but Chargers GM A.J. Smith isn’t afraid to roll the dice on occasion. Plus, the Raiders receivers are garbage.
2. Seattle – The team most associated with Jackson might have soured on acquiring his services. He’d be a major upgrade, but Pete Carroll seems determined to prove Mike Williams, Deion Branch and Deon Butler are capable of getting the job done in 2010.
1. Minnesota – If this truly is Brett Favre’s last hurrah, the Vikings offense will need a go-to playmaker in the passing game. With Sidney Rice sidelined until at least mid-season and Percy Harvin still an enigma, Jackson would give them the downfield threat they are sorely lacking.
