This Friday, September 10, the “Solo Boxeo” fight series will head down to San Diego for their latest installment which will be televised nationally on Telefutura. The seven fight Golden Boy Promoted event at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel will feature local hero Chris “SD Kid” Martin (19-0-2, 5 KOs) as he takes on veteran Mexican slugger Jose Luis Araiza (32-2, 23 KOs) in an eight round junior featherweight clash. The co-main event of the evening pits the hot prospect Luis Grajeda (10-0, 7 KO’s) who will be taking on fellow welterweight Alan Sanchez (5-2, 2 KOs) in another eight rounder.
Chris Martin has made some noise in the boxing world during his relatively short career by becoming the winner of California state titles in the junior featherweight and featherweight divisions, Martin scored the biggest win of his career in August, when he issued unbeaten hot prospect Chris Avalos his first professional defeat.
Golden Boy Promotions as well as the rest of Martin’s team feel it’s time for another step up in competition, this one against Jose Luis Araiza.
Araiza has established himself to be a hard-hitting native of Michoacan de Ocampo Michoacan, Mexico. The 31-year-old’s most recent outing resulted in a second round TKO loss to William Gonzalez for the WBO Latino bantamweight title back in April. Despite the loss, Araiza is still very much considered one of the most promising contenders in the sport. A standout on the Mexican fight scene, Araiza has ended 15 of his bouts in three rounds or less and he would like nothing better than to spoil Martin’s San Diego homecoming on September 10.
Moving on to the evening’s co-featured bout, Golden Boy fighter and two-time Mexican National Amateur Champion, Luis Grajeda, who also battled his way to the quarterfinals of the 2007 Pan Am Games, was always seen as a fighter with the perfect style for the pro game. He’s certainly lived up to the hype thus far, as he’s stopped seven of his ten opponents. In his most recent bout in June at the same venue in San Diego, he showed the ability to handle a seasoned veteran when he defeated Cristian Favela by way of a six round unanimous decision. He’s back to entertain his growing fan base once again as he takes on Alan Sanchez.
The 19-year-old Sanchez has made plenty of fans in San Diego as well with it being the site of three of his seven pro bouts. In March, the Fairfield native made a huge statement to Southern California fight fans with his fifth round stoppage of 11-0-1 prospect Alberto Morales and he knows that a similar win over Grajeda will continue his progress in what could be a promising career.
In addition to Golden Boy Promotions, Chargin Productions has their hand in promoting the Cerveza Tecate sponsored event. Doors open at 6:00pm PT, the first bell rings at 7:00pm PT for fans in the San Diego area that plan on attending the event in person and for the rest of the fight fans who will be tuning in to watch on television the TeleFutura broadcast airs at 11:30pm ET/PT (10:30pm CT).
