Slow Week For MMA? Try Some Shark Fights
Added on Sep 07, 2010 by Bill Jackson in
I am of the minority of fight fans that are just as wrapped up in boxing as in MMA. I never miss a fight, no matter what the sport. And it works out when there are a couple slow weeks for one, and the other picks up the slack. However, last weekend there was nothing. The UFC just had an event, Friday Night Fights’ season ended with a dud , HBO is slipping a bit on it’s fall boxing programming, and Strikeforce events are too few and far between. What am I to do with my life if there are no fights on?
Well, for one, Bellator is always there as the reliable weekly source of quality fights on the same day each week. Their last main event was one of the more dramatic fights you will see in MMA. But that is on Thursday, and I need something on the weekend to persuade me from going to the bars and separating myself from my senses. Needless to say, I’m still recovering here on Tuesday from last weekend.
Though you may be thinking that this weekend will be the same self-inflicted torture, you are wrong… hopefully.
Flying under the MMA radar is a surprisingly notable fight card, Shark Fights 13: Jardine Vs. Prangley. The event will feature an array of UFC castaways that likely will be fighting their hearts out for another chance at the big stage. One in particular that could produce some fireworks is Sokoudjou vs. Houston Alexander, as long as Houston doesn’t fight like he did against Kimbo Slice.
Other notable fighters include Paul Daley, Joey Villasenor, Brock Larson, Pete Spratt, and in the main event Keith Jardine faces Trevor Prangley. The event is priced at 29.99.
If that event isn’t enough for you, check out HBO Boxing on Saturday as it features the great Yuriorkis Gamboa as he continues to rise to the top of boxing. He is the kind of fighter than can make any sport fan appreciate the sweet science.
And then we will just have a few days to kill before the next Ultimate Fight Night and the debut of the new season of The Ultimate Fighter. Of course that show gets more repetitive and agonizing each season, but with the help of DVR you can make your way through the nonsense and see a fight each week.
