UFC 118 Payouts: Toney Leads the Pack

Of course, we don’t know what kind of undisclosed payments go out to any fighter after the event, but from what we do know, the UFC can put on a hell of a show without breaking open the piggy bank. About 1.4 million is what is reported as the combined fighter payroll, and that is relatively high for a UFC event. The live gate covered twice that.

What surprises me is that the one champion on the card makes far less than challenger B.J. Penn, Randy Couture, James Toney, and even 20k less than Kenny Florian. Obviously, Edgar is not yet the name that any of those fighters are, but now that he has proven himself with a tremendous career best performance in the first defense of his title, I think it is time for a raise.

James Toney leads the pack with 500k, though many were estimating his pay between 750k and a million dollars. But, as always with the UFC, we never know the undisclosed bonuses. The “fight of the night” and “submission of the night” bonuses are not added to the payout list, and there was not a single knockout on the card. Joe Lauzon earned 60k for his submission of Gabe Ruedigar, and Nate Diaz and Marcus Davis earned 60k each for their bloody and destructive brawl.
