Updating the Preseason Injuries
Added on Aug 27, 2010 by Scott in
Every NFL team crosses their fingers to escape the preseason unscathed. Unfortunately, that never occurs. Injuries happen. Some are more important than others. Here’s a quick breakdown of the recent hurts that matter most.
Donnie Avery (Rams) – The third-year wide receiver suffered what is being called a “significant knee injury” in last night’s preseason game versus the Patriots. The de facto number one passing option could be shelved the entire season. I watched the game. It didn’t look good for Avery.
Gary Brackett (Colts) – Indy’s best linebacker took a teammate’s helmet to his hand while attempting to tackle Ryan Grant in last night’s loss to the Packers. No word on the severity, but the Colts training staff appeared to be concerned.
Joseph Addai (Colts) – Addai got his bell rung when tackling Packers linebacker Robert Francois after a Peyton Manning fumble. It’s being called a concussion, but Addai said he was fine and didn’t seem too woozy. Still something to keep an eye on since Addai has struggled with various ailments throughout his career.
Sean O’Hara (Giants) – O’Hara’s sore left ankle has finally ended his preseason and could keep him out of the September 12th opener versus Carolina. The pain stems from chronic Achilles tendinitis, which will likely plague him for the entire 2010 season.
Donovan McNabb (Redskins) – McNabb normally waits until the regular season to get hurt, but he decided to get an early start with a sprained ankle, which will keep him sidelined until the opener.
Brian Urlacher (Bears) – Chicago’s man in the middle will miss Saturday’s game against Arizona with a strained left calf. He’ll probably sit the rest of the preseason, but he has repeatedly said the injury isn’t a big deal.
Matt Leinart (Cardinals) – Leinart has a bruised ego due to being benched in favor of journeyman Derek Anderson. The Cardinals quarterback picture is a mess. Leinart might still be the number one guy when the regular season kicks off, but he’s far from reliable at the point.
