October 9 in San Jose, Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz will defend his title in a rematch against K.J Noons. The fight will be the main event of a card to be shown on Showtime.
The two first met three years ago for an EliteXC 160 pound title with Noons winning by TKO due to cuts after one round. Diaz clearly still wanted to fight when the doctor called a halt to the bout and angrily left the ring. He has been eager to get a rematch ever since.
Noons most recently stopped Jorge Gurgel at Strikeforce: Houston in a bout filled with controversy. Noons has been fighting around the lightweight limit, but will move up to 170 for the opportunity.
Other bouts secured for the card include female welterweight champion Sarah Karfmann defending her title against Marloes Coenen, and veteran Matt Lindland facing up and comer Luke Rockhold. Josh Thomson is also rumored to be fighting on the card.
Many fans were hoping to see a clash between Diaz and Jason Miller in a fight that continues to build steam, but Strikeforce went a different route. This will be the first defense of Diaz’s title.
