Recent History Says Brett Favre Will Flop In 2010
Added on Aug 19, 2010 by Scott in
Brett Favre is back. Yaaaaaaaaay! Fans of the purple and gold are no doubt exchanging high fives and trash talking the nearest Packers backer. ESPN can put away the crash carts and the Vikings can once again call themselves contenders. All is right in the NFL. Or is it?
Some quick research should make the growing number of Favre haters happy. He might be back, again, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he and the Vikings are in store for a winning 2010. Rewinding the clock back to 2005, right around the time #4 first started waffling about retirement, a pattern began to emerge.
Favre, who had been a model of consistency for 13 seasons, suddenly became an every-other-year quarterback. Check out this fancy chart:
Year | Yards | TDs | INTs | Record |
2005 | 3881 | 20 | 29 | 4-12 |
2006 | 3885 | 18 | 18 | 8-8 |
2007 | 4155 | 28 | 15 | 13-3 |
2008 | 3472 | 22 | 22 | 9-7 |
2009 | 4202 | 33 | 7 | 12-4 |
Inconsistency. Awful touchdown/interception ratio. More losses. If this trend continues, Favre and the Vikings are staring at a disappointing season ahead. Adding fuel to this potential bonfire is the fact that his surgically repaired ankle is still bothering him. Obviously, Iron Man can play through pain, but a not 100% Favre is often an ugly thing to watch. Just like it was in 2008 when he played with a torn biceps tendon and tossed 22 picks.
So, rejoice while you can Vikings loyalists. Bad news could be lying in wait.
