Tony Dungy Doesn’t Like Rex Ryan’s Potty Mouth

If you were lucky enough to watch the first episode of HBO’s new season of Hard Knocks starring the New York Jets, you likely noticed Rex Ryan loves to drop the F-bomb, a lot. While I found his salty language to be hilarious, others were apparently offended. One of Ryan’s more vocal detractors is ex-Colts head coach Tony Dungy, who let his displeasure be known on this morning’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show (which I happened to catch).
Dungy wagged his finger at Ryan, who is a 47-year-old man by the way, for his colorful vocabulary and proclaimed if he was in charge, he “wouldn’t hire somebody like that.” He even went so far as to say that Commissioner Roger Goodell should step in and do something about it. Huh?
Not everyone subscribes to Dungy’s prim and proper coaching methods. I hate to bring up the pesky Constitution, but last time I checked, freedom of speech is still being enforced. Football is a man’s game. Ryan and those he coaches are grown men. If they want to curse, they have the right to do so. Not to mention, HBO is a paid cable channel. Language restrictions do not apply.
If Dungy doesn’t like what he’s hearing there’s something called a mute button that works wonders. I suggest he stick to analyzing the action on the field and stop policing things that don’t concern him. Leave Rex Ryan and his potty mouth alone.
