MLB Betting Free Picks: Detroit @ New York Mets
Added on Jun 22, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Interleague baseball betting action continues at sportsbooks today, and we’ll take a look at a game between the Detroit Tigers and New York Mets. These are two of the hottest teams in baseball at the moment, both having won 8 of their last 10 games. The Mets are still in 2nd place in the NL East because Atlanta has also won 8 of 10. Detroit is now in 2nd place in the AL Central, 1.5 games behind Minnesota.

There’s a lot of reasons to like the Detroit Tigers in this spot–as noted above, they’ve been in great form of late winning 8 of their last 10 games. They’ve also pulverized left handed pitching hitting .278 for 4.9 runs per game. They’re 12-7 +4.9 units against southpaws. Justin Verlander has looked sharp all year and the Tigers have won 10 of his 14 starts. Detroit is 9-3 in Interleague play this season. It’s also easy to make a case for the Mets, who have an identical 8-2 record in their last 10 games. Jon Niese has essentially the same YTD numbers as Verlander, and he’s looked even better in his recent outings. New York is also 9-3 in games against the AL this year.
What we don’t like about Detroit is their road performance this year, where they’re 13-19 -5.4 units. That’s a bigger problem in this matchup since the Mets have been very good at Shea Stadium with a 24-10 +12.4 unit mark in 2010. And sealing the deal on our position is the fact that the Mets are slight underdogs in this matchup for reasons that aren’t quite apparent. From our view, it looks like a dead even matchup but we’re getting a plus money price on a team with one of the best home records in baseball against a team that has lost money on the road. We’ll gladly take the Mets in that situation.
Bet NY Mets (Niese) +130 over Detroit (Verlander)
