MLB Betting Free Picks: Chicago WS @ Tampa Bay
Added on May 29, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
A huge day of action at sportsbooks all over the board, and there’s plenty of baseball betting opportunities on tap. We’ll head to the American League as the AL East leading Tampa Bay Rays host the Chicago White Sox. The teams split the first two games of the series, with Tampa Bay winning on Thursday and the White Sox prevailing on Friday:
Chicago White Sox (John Danks) at Tampa Bay Rays (Wade Davis)
May 29th, 4:10 PM Pacific
We like John Danks, and he’s the reason this price is somewhat reasonable. He checks in with a solid 2.37 ERA but the White Sox have only won 5 of his 9 starts. And, as always, its important to look beyond the starting pitching matchup when handicapping baseball. Much of Chicago’s problems this year can be traced to lack of offense. The White Sox are hitting a paltry .235 as a team, last in the American League and second worst in all of baseball. Tampa isn’t an offensive juggernaut either, but they can afford this since they have the best team ERA in the American League at 3.04.
Tampa needs to pick up some games after a sweep by the Red Sox earlier this week, and this is a good chance to do it. The Rays are 15-6 +7 units against left handers while the White Sox are 15-19 -6.2 units against right handers. Wade Davis has only one start against Chicago in his career, but that was in late April when he pitched a 2 hit shutout on the road. Tampa has taken care of business against teams with losing records this year (23-7 +10.4 units) and no matter how you slice this one up we’re getting the best team in baseball at a reasonable price.
Bet Tampa Bay (Davis) -140 over Chicago WS (Danks)
