With sports betting sites offering a short slate of hoops action for Tuesday we’ll take a look at a NHL betting opportunity as the San Jose Sharks take on the Minnesota Wild.  Sharks have hit the skids lately, losing 6 straight and 7 of their L10 and have dropped to 4th place in the Western Conference after spending much of the season battling for the best overall record in the NHL.  Minnesota is in 12th place with an outside shot of making the postseason.

San Jose Sharks at Minnesota Wild
March 22, 5:05 PM Pacific

This game will be televised nationally in the US on the Versus cable network.  Sharks are a mess right now–they’re not scoring, they’re playing shoddy defense and giving up a ton of goals and they’re watching their playoff seeding spin down the toilet.  Things reached a nadir for the sharks on Monday night with a 5-1 loss to the lowly Edmonton Oilers and they’ll get considerably more difficult here as San Jose heads to Minnesota.  Wild have won 4 of their last six and still have a small chance of making the playoffs.  They’ve been a very good team at home all year with a 24-9-3 record.

Some interest in the Wild as +100 home dogs, but a better position is likely to be found on the total.  With San Jose’s defensive struggles of late one of two things is likely to happen here–the Sharks will score a bunch of goals and win, or else they’ll give up a bunch of goals and lose.  The last game of a six city road swing isn’t a place where they’re likely to rediscover their defensive intensity.  5 of the last 6 and the last 4 head to head have gone Over the total including both previous meetings this year.  The last 4 games have seen an average total of 7.25 and the price on this game doesn’t accurately reflect the Sharks shoddy recent form.
