On paper this looks like a fairly even matchup against 8th place Boston College and 9th place Virginia. BC finished 6-10 in conference, 15-15 overall while Virginia ended the regular season 5-11 in ACC play and 14-15 overall. The reality is that these are two teams going in different directions and this game could very well be a mismatch. Virginia finished the season on a 9 game SU losing streak during which they went 0-8-1 ATS. They’ve won only 2 of 13 SU and only 2 of 14 ATS going 2-11-1 during that run. They averaged a pitiful 57.2 PPG during their season ending losing streak. They lived and died with the performance of leading scorer Sylven Landesberg who has dealt with several injuries this year, and they’ll play this game without him and his 17.3 PPG since he’s been suspended for the rest of the season due to academics. UVA was 3-9 ATS as an underdog and 5-10 ATS in conference *with* him in the lineup, so that doesn’t bode well for their performance here.
Boston College is also a rebuilding team, but ended their season playing reasonably well winning 3 of their L5 SU and 4 of 5 ATS. Al Skinner has coached the Eagles forever, has a system and may finally have his team playing well within it. Eagles at least were able to tread water against the pointspread this year going 13-13 ATS overall and 8-8 in conference. How tough was BC’s schedule this year? This is their first lined game of the season against an opponent with a losing record. These teams met a week ago at BC and the Eagles won by 13 with UVA leading scorer Landesberg in the lineup. Minus the 13 points he scored on that night things should be even easier here.
