College Basketball Betting Picks: Georgetown vs. Syracuse
Added on Mar 11, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Sportsbooks are offering plenty of college basketball betting action this week, and we’ve got an early bird position on Big East Conference tournament action between Georgetown and Syracuse. Syracuse has been idle since the finished their regular season with a loss to Louisville, while Georgetown got their Big East tournament run underway by demolishing South Florida. Note that this game is at a neutral site (Madison Square Garden) and starts at 9 AM Pacific/12 Noon Eastern.
Georgetown vs. Syracuse

With a 28-3 overall record and ranked #3 in the country, Syracuse is very likely looking at the Big East Tournament as something of a chore. They’ve already won the regular season crown and are all but a lock for a #1 seeding in the NCAA tournament regardless of what happens at Madison Square Garden this week. In fact, there’s very little incentive for this team to subject themselves to a grueling tournament run with they’ve got bigger fish to fry once the ‘Big Dance’ starts. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Syracuse came out with a ‘phoned in’ performance similar to their season ending loss against Louisville.
#22 ranked Georgetown is in a dramatically different position. They’ve got a 21-9 SU record but for whatever reason still are off the radar screen of college hoop fans nationally. A good run in the Big East Tournament could significantly improve their NCAA tournament seeding from the #5 or #6 that most pundits currently have them slotted at. Syracuse won and covered both regular season games against the Hoyas en route to a 19-8 ATS record. Georgetown did play them tough at home on 2/18, losing by 4 as a -1′ home favorite. With the very questionable motivation of Syracuse in this spot against a Georgetown team that would really benefit from a good run we’ll take the points.
