NBA Betting Free Picks: Atlanta @ New York

Sportsbooks are offering 5 NBA betting opportunities (though the San Antonio/Cleveland game is currently off the board). We’ll take a look at an Eastern Conference game between the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks. Boston and Orlando both won on Sunday, dropping Atlanta to fourth place in the conference. The Hawks are 1/2 game behind the third place Celtics and 3 games behind second place Orlando. The Knicks are 10 games out of the final playoff spot in the East and 27 games out of first place. Their bigger concern is trying to stay ahead of Indiana–the Pacers have the worst record in the conference with the exception of lowly New Jersey.

Hawks are off a tough loss at Miami on Saturday, while the Knicks lost by 10 to New Jersey as -8 home favorites. In theory, we’d expect a good effort off a loss to the hapless Nets but this Knicks team has all the look of a team playing out the string. They have won two of three against the Hawks this year, oddly enough winning both games in Atlanta and losing the previous game here at Madison Square Garden. New York has won only 3 of their L15 games straight up and covered the pointspread in only six of those games. Knicks have been a bad investment at home this year, with a 15-19 ATS mark overall.
Atlanta has a very good record on the road, where they’re 15-15 SU and 17-13 ATS. They’re also 27-19 ATS as a favorite and have gone 11-2 SU/ATS against the Atlantic Division. They’re also 20-7 SU/17-10 ATS against teams with losing records so more often than not Atlanta takes care of business against their weaker adversaries. They won’t play again until a game at Washington on Tuesday so they’ll have full focus here. Look for the Hawks to pick up an easy win and pull ahead of Boston in the Eastern Conference race.
