College Basketball Betting Free Picks: Charlotte @ Rhode Island

College basketball betting action will be heating up at the sportsbooks over the next few weeks with conference tournaments and the NCAA playoffs getting underway. We’ll look for a good wagering opportunity as the regular season winds down in Atlantic 10 action between Charlotte and Rhode Island. These two teams are fairly even in terms of their performance this year–Rhode Island has the better overall record at 20-7 to Charlotte’s 19-9, but the visitor from North Carolina has the edge in conference.

Both teams have lost money against the spread this year. Charlotte is 9-14 ATS overall while Rhode Island is 8-13 against the number. This is a horrible ATS situation for the Rams, however, and there’s a couple of other factors working in favor of the visitors. This is Senior Night for Rhode Island and they’ve already hit the magic number of 20 victories on the season. This means that a lot of upperclassmen will see court time in their final regular season home game. Charlotte, meanwhile, is trying to get that twentieth victory and earning it against a highly accomplished conference rival would make it even better.
More significantly, there’ s no way to make a good case for Rhode Island at home. Here’s the ugly numbers–the Rams are 1-8 ATS at home. Rhode Island is also 5-11 ATS as a favorite and 3-9 ATS in conference. We’d be looking to take the points with just about any opponent they’d be facing in this spot, but its hard to make a case for the Rams being -7′ point favorites over a team so evenly matched in terms of wins and losses. Head to head, Charlotte has won 5 of the L8 meetings but the ATS tally is even at 4-4. With the visitor clearly the more motivated side, we’ll gladly take points with them and expect a competitive game throughout.
