NHL Betting Picks: Buffalo @ Vancouver
Added on Jan 25, 2010 by Jack Thurman in
Short slate of pro hockey on the sports betting board for Monday, but we’ll look to take a NHL betting position on the game between the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks at the GM Place Arena. Buffalo’s west coast road swing started well with a victory over Phoenix, but the Sabres have since lost three straight games and now must face a tough Canucks team. Vancouver has been playing well, and is off of a lopsided beating of the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night.

Sabres have been uncharacteristically poor on the defensive end of the ice during their three game losing streak. They’ve allowed 14 goals in those three games and have now gone ‘Over’ in four straight. Buffalo has the talent to compete in a more wide open type of game but its not their preferred style of play. They might get caught up in an end to end game here, as Vancouver has done well with that style. Canucks have won eight of their last eleven games, scoring 3+ goals in all of th0se wins. Simply stated, they don’t do well playing the style preferred by a team like Calgary. Worth noting that despite the 5-1 win over Chicago on Saturday night that the Canucks didn’t play particularly well on the defensive end, giving up 44 shots but were bailed out by the exemplary play of Roberto Luongo. Vancouver has given up a lot of shots all year, and are fortunate that they’ve got a talented workhorse between the pipes. Vancouver now Over in 4 of their last 5 games. Teams haven’t played since 2008, but the series O/U breakdown is fairly even. We’ll look for more wide open hockey from Vancouver, and another game that goes Over the total.
