NHL hockey betting action for Sunday has struggling Calgary heading to the Honda Center to take on the Anaheim Ducks. We’ve got to do some sports betting on this game, more specifically on the total. Ducks had a five game winning streak broken in their last game, while Calgary has lost three straight and five of their last six games:
Calgary Flames at Anaheim Ducks
January 17, 5:05 PM Pacific
Everything you need to know about the recent struggles of the Calgary Flames can be summed up by their last game, where they lost 1-0 at home to Nashville. The defense has been playing well and Mikka Kiprusoff is in good form. Unfortunately, the Flames’ offense has been playing like an expansion team and even the usually consistent Jarome Iginla is struggling. The Flames’ captain has only two goals and three assists in his last dozen games.
As so often happens in the NHL, the recent improved play of the Anaheim Ducks has coincided with better defensive intensity. During the recent five game winning streak, the Ducks gave up a total of 9 goals against. They’ve gone ‘under’ in 3 of their last five games and obviously know what sort of style Calgary will throw at them tonight. Flames have gone ‘under’ in 12 of 17 against teams with losing records and their ‘solid defense/no offense’ form should continue that run. The Flames haven’t gone ‘over’ the total in 11 straight (9 UN, 2 push) and as we’ve discussed in the past they’re a team that is able to maintain this style of play, so that ‘unders’ come in bunches. After three or more ‘unders’ the Flames have gone ‘under’ in 13 of 16 this year. Last three games head to head have gone ‘under’ as have 5 of the L8 overall and 4 of the L5 in Southern California.
