The Philadelphia Eagles may be the worst 2-0 team in NFL history. They’ve managed to win both of their games so far this season despite 9 turnovers and a slew of penalties. For some reason, the NFL betting ‘public’ and mainstream media continues to believe that this is an elite team–at any rate, they’re still priced like a high level Super Bowl contender and we’ll continue to take advantage of this myopic view of Philadelphia.
We’ve gone against the Eagles in each of their first two games and while they may have won both outright they’ve lost both games against the spread. The market’s maddening ability to correctly assess the abilities of this train wreck waiting to happen gives us another good value opportunity on the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals may not be a great team–they can’t even decide on a starting quarterback–but they have become a solid home field investment. Arizona has won their last six home games going 5-1 against the spread. The Cardinals are playing very good defense so far this season and particularly against the pass (top 5 pass defense).
Philadelphia is also going to play without starting center Jason Kelce. Center may not be the most exciting and glamorous position on a football team but NFL betting experts know that it’s one of the most important. The Eagles’ offensive line hasn’t done a great job protecting Michael Vick so far and this definitely won’t help things. The Eagles are 2-0 due more to Brandon Weeden’s experience (through an INT on a potential game winning drive in Philly’s opening game at Cleveland) and some fortuitous calls by replacement officials at home than anything they’ve done right. With a big divisional game against the New York Giants on deck next week this is a lookahead spot for Philadelphia and we look for Arizona to win outright.
